Best Country to Study Abroad from Nepal in 2026
Updated 28 October 2026 · By the Bhasika team
Germany, Australia, the UK, Canada or the USA? We compared the five most popular destinations for Nepali students on what actually matters: tuition, the money you need to show, part-time work, and what you can do after graduating.
The short answer
There is no single best country, only the best country for your profile. For most Nepali students it comes down to this:
- Lowest cost: Germany, because public universities charge little or no tuition.
- English-only and a large Nepali community: Australia and the UK.
- Long-term settlement focus: Canada and Australia, though both have tightened student rules since 2024.
- Top-ranked universities and STEM careers: the USA, if your budget and scores are strong.

| Australia | Typically AUD 25,000–45,000 per year | 48 hours per fortnight during term | Temporary Graduate (485) visa, typically 2 years for bachelor’s and coursework master’s | English |

Germany: best value if you can plan ahead
Public universities in Germany charge no tuition for most programmes, even for international students. The catch is preparation: you must show about €11,904 per year in a blocked account or equivalent proof of funds, and many bachelor's programmes are taught in German. Master's students with a strong bachelor's have the most English-taught options. Read the full study in Germany from Nepal guide.
Australia: popular, English-only, expensive
Australia has one of the largest Nepali student communities and straightforward English-taught programmes. It is also among the most expensive options, and visa scrutiny on genuine-student intent has increased. Choose a course that clearly builds on your previous study and keep your financial documents airtight.
UK: short courses, shorter post-study work
Master's degrees in the UK usually take one year, which saves on living costs. The Graduate Route currently gives two years of post-study work, but applications made from 1 January 2027 get 18 months for bachelor's and master's graduates. Dependants are no longer allowed on most taught master's courses.
Canada and the USA
Canada caps the number of study permits and asks most applicants for a provincial attestation letter, so admission alone is no longer enough. Post-graduation work permits now also need a language test result.
The USA offers top-ranked universities and generous OPT for STEM graduates, but it is costly and the visa interview carries real weight. Strong scores and scholarships make the biggest difference here.

Canada offers post-graduation work permits of up to three years, the USA offers up to 36 months of OPT for STEM graduates, and Australia typically offers two years for bachelor’s and coursework master’s graduates. Germany gives an 18-month job-seeker permit.

Yes. The UK Graduate Route is two years for applications made before 1 January 2027 and 18 months for bachelor’s and master’s graduates who apply from that date.

Some universities accept alternatives such as PTE, TOEFL, Duolingo or a medium of instruction letter, and German-taught programmes need a German certificate instead. Visa rules may still require a recognised test, so check both.
